Stroke Symptoms in Men: Recognising the Warning Signs
The warning signs of stroke in men and why acting immediately saves lives.
Prof. Dr. Engin Çakar · Physical Medicine & RehabilitationStroke is a major cause of death and disability in men, and men tend to have strokes at a younger average age than women. Recognising the signs and acting fast is vital.
Recognise a Stroke — FAST
The key signs are captured by FAST: Face drooping on one side, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, and Time to call emergency services immediately. These are the same core signs for everyone.
Other Warning Signs
Watch also for sudden numbness or weakness on one side of the body, sudden confusion or trouble understanding speech, sudden trouble seeing, sudden difficulty walking, dizziness or loss of balance, and a sudden severe headache with no known cause.
Why Men Should Pay Attention
Men often have higher rates of key risk factors such as high blood pressure, smoking and excessive alcohol, and may be more likely to delay seeking help. Because effective treatments work only within a limited time window, every minute of delay costs brain tissue.
Reducing Risk
Control blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes, stop smoking, stay active, eat well, limit alcohol and treat atrial fibrillation. If you notice any stroke sign in yourself or someone else, do not wait — call emergency services at once. Fast action dramatically improves the chance of recovery.
