Rehabilitation and Surgery

How rehabilitation and surgical care work together for the best recovery.

The best outcomes after a serious injury or operation come when surgery and rehabilitation are planned together, not treated as separate steps. At our centre, the two are closely coordinated.

The Role of Surgery

Surgery addresses the underlying problem — repairing damage, relieving pressure, stabilising bones or joints, or treating the cause of a neurological event. It sets the stage for recovery, but on its own it rarely restores full function.

The Role of Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is what turns a successful operation into a return to daily life. Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and, where needed, cognitive and psychological support rebuild strength, movement, skills and confidence. For neurological patients, rehabilitation harnesses the brain's ability to relearn; for orthopaedic patients, it restores strength and range of motion around the new or repaired joint.

Working Together

When rehabilitation begins early and is tailored to the surgery performed, patients recover faster, with fewer complications and better long-term function. Our multidisciplinary team plans rehabilitation around each patient's procedure and goals, coordinating care from before the operation through every stage of recovery.

This integrated approach — the right surgery followed by the right rehabilitation — gives patients the best chance of regaining independence and quality of life.
